One draft, every platform, no copy-paste

Cross-posting is the highest-leverage Mirgent skill. Master the per-platform tuning, hashtag rotation, character-limit handling, and image-resizing automation here.

Cross-posting done badly vs done well

Most operators cross-post by writing once and pasting identical content to 5 platforms. The audience notices: 280-character tweets posted to LinkedIn look amateur; image-first Instagram captions broadcast on Twitter look stuffed; identical hashtag sets across platforms look templated.

Done well, cross-posting respects each platform's vocabulary: short and quotable for Twitter; structured + hook + value for LinkedIn; visual-first for Instagram; conversational for Bluesky / Mastodon. Mirgent automates the per-platform tuning so 'doing it well' takes 30 seconds, not 30 minutes.

The composer's per-platform tabs

Mirgent's composer has tabs across the top, one per connected platform. Write the master draft once; AI generates per-platform variants; tweak any tab independently.

1

Master draft tab

Write your core idea in plain language without platform-specific tweaks. AI variants flow from this. Master draft is also stored as the canonical content for analytics correlation.

2

Click any platform tab to override

Switch to Twitter tab, see the AI-generated 280-char variant; edit if needed. Switch to LinkedIn, see the long-form variant; tweak structure. Each tab is independent; changes don't propagate back to master.

3

Per-platform media variants

Upload one image to master; Mirgent auto-crops to 1:1 / 4:5 / 9:16 / 16:9 per platform. Override per-platform if you want different visuals (e.g. Pinterest gets a vertical pin while Twitter gets a 16:9 hero).

Tip

Don't override every variant. AI's defaults are usually good; reviewing 5+ tabs per post burns the time savings. Override only when you spot something off.

AI variant generation under the hood

AI reads your master draft + business context + per-platform tone guide, then drafts each variant. The model used per platform is configurable (Haiku for short-form, Sonnet for long-form).

1

Tone guides per platform

Settings → Platform Tone → per-platform field. 'Twitter: terse, witty, no corporate jargon'. 'LinkedIn: thought-leadership, hook + insight + question close'. AI references these on every variant.

2

Length-budget enforcement

Twitter strictly 280; LinkedIn up to 3000; Bluesky 300; Mastodon 500. Mirgent enforces hard limits, variants over budget regenerate or surface as warnings.

3

Hashtag style per platform

Twitter: 1-2 niche hashtags. LinkedIn: 3-5 trending. Instagram: 8-12 mix. Mirgent's hashtag style guide tunes per platform automatically.

Hashtag rotation

Identical 30-hashtag sets posted daily look spammy and trigger algorithm dampening. Mirgent's hashtag rotator avoids this.

1

Define hashtag pools

Per platform, define 3-5 hashtag pools by theme (e.g. 'B2B SaaS', 'Founder Voice', 'Specific Product'). Mirgent picks the right pool per post based on content keywords.

2

Rotation logic

Within a pool, Mirgent randomizes which 5 of 15 hashtags to use. Same hashtag won't appear in 2 consecutive posts. Same pool won't appear in 3 consecutive posts.

3

Performance feedback

Mirgent tracks engagement per hashtag pool over 30 days. Underperforming pools auto-deprioritize; winning hashtags surface more often. Self-tuning over weeks.

Image auto-resizing

Each platform has different image expectations. Master image gets auto-cropped to fit; focal-point preservation handles smart crops.

Cross-posting pitfalls

Mistakes that defeat the cross-posting time savings.

  • Master draft too platform-specific. If your master is already 280-char Twitter copy, LinkedIn variant has nothing to expand. Write platform-neutral master drafts; let AI tune.
  • Over-overriding variants. Reviewing all 5 tabs per post = 5x the time of one tab. Trust AI for non-critical posts; reserve override for high-stakes content.
  • Ignoring per-platform timing. Cross-posting at the same instant to all platforms looks bot-like. Use Mirgent's stagger mode (default 5-30 min between platforms).
  • Same hashtag set across platforms. Algorithms detect identical-tag patterns; Mirgent's hashtag rotator solves this only if you've defined separate pools per platform.

Three cross-posting recipes

What real operators use most often.

  1. Solo creator: 5-platform fanout

Master draft → AI variants for Twitter, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon, Hashnode. Stagger 5-15 min between. Total publishing time: 30 seconds + AI generation time.

  2. B2B founder: 3-platform thought-leadership

Master = LinkedIn long-form. Variants for Twitter (terse hook + link to LinkedIn), Bluesky (medium-form excerpt). LinkedIn = the canonical; others drive traffic to it.

  3. Visual creator: 4-platform with image variants

Master = Instagram carousel + caption. Variants: TikTok (vertical Reels-equivalent), Pinterest (vertical pin from carousel slide 1), Twitter (1:1 image with caption). Auto-crop handles all.

Cross-Posting FAQ

Will my audience notice it's cross-posted?

Not if AI variants are tuned. Same content posted verbatim across 5 platforms is obvious; same content with platform-specific tone, hook, length, and hashtags reads as native to each platform. Most users can't tell apart Mirgent-generated variants from human-rewritten content.

How does Mirgent handle platform-specific @mentions?

Per-platform tab, Twitter @username won't auto-translate to LinkedIn @username (different handles). Edit per-platform if you reference specific accounts.

Can I cross-post from Mirgent to non-Mirgent tools?

Webhooks: yes via Workflows. Mirgent fires a webhook when a post ships; downstream tools (Buffer, Zapier) can receive and act. For pure cross-posting Mirgent typically replaces the other tool.

What's the right number of platforms to cross-post to?

Quality > quantity. 3 platforms with native-feeling variants beats 19 platforms with identical content. Most solo creators run 3-5; agencies vary per client.

Does cross-posting hurt SEO?

If posting blog cross-posts to Medium / Hashnode / Dev.to: set canonical URL to your main blog. SEO ranks the original; cross-posts drive traffic without diluting rankings.
